Our curriculum

Our children benefit from a comprehensive curriculum and a wide range of variety of extra curricular activities through expert teachers.

The curriculum for younger children is derived from the Governments framework ‘Birth to Three Matters’. This framework facilitates effective practice, planning, resourcing and meeting diverse needs which enable us to promote and implement different experiences to enable children’s development. For more information click go to www.surestart.gov.uk.

The curriculum for children over three is derived from the Governments ’Foundation Stage’ which leads up to the National Curriculum. At Children-First we ensure that children begin their education in a learning environment that is stimulating, purposeful, well planned and supportive. Learning is effective, varies, exciting and ensures continuity. For further information go to www.dfes.gov.uk.

Specialist teachers in our Nursery offer:

Tiny Talk - Baby Sign

Caroline Hand visits our children each week and teaches baby sign. Our staff receive accredited training in Tiny Talk. It has been shown that learning baby signing enhances communication skills and language development as children .

Young Yoga

Parents are always welcome to join the baby yoga sessions which the children really enjoy. Yoga at an early age increases flexibility and co-ordination which enhances development and self esteem. Our youngest babies really love their yoga massage.

French

Our French teachers teach in very small groups to ensure full participation and interaction in French lessons. Children love to learn another language in their early years. Research has proven that learning a second language accelerates the speed of acquisition of the child’s primary language.

Music, Singing and Movement

Weekly Musical sessions are fun enjoyable and facilitate the early stages of music appreciation.

Dance and Drama

Dance and drama is taught to older children who love participating with our expert teacher. Parents look forward to our annual showcase of the children’s work at Christmas.
