Animal Footprints

Animal Footprints

This week in preschool we looked at lots of different footprints. They started by trying to identify the different animal tracks on the floor. They were able to recognise lots of footprints, such as the horse, dinosaur, and duck. Some of the children were excited and said, “that’s a horsey footprint!” The children noticed some more unique footprints such as the kangaroo, monkey, and giraffe, that they found harder to recognise. They were really interested to see how different they all were. The children then tried to walk like the animal across the room! The children then tried to find the animals on the table and match them to correct footprint.

To further extend, the children made their own animal footprints using their toy animals and playdough. The children chose lots of different animals and imprinted their feet into the playdough. Some of the children noticed that some have two footprints, and some have four! One of the children said “look, the tiger has four footprints!” After this discovery, we decided to compare each animal and their footprints and tried to guess how many footprints they had! They children really enjoyed the activity and were amazing at guessing.
