Numeracy Day

On Wednesday it was Numeracy day and Lions read 'The Hungry Caterpillar book' where they counted all the fruit that the caterpillar ate and then had a wow table with the book, chalks and lots of mirrored numbers where they could make their own marks to represent numbers. They also sung lots of songs with numbers such as '1,2,3,4,5 once I caught a fish alive' and ' three little ducks went swimming one day'

Number sense development in early childhood, including the EYFS, is crucial for building a foundation in mathematics and future learning success. Even for children under 2, early exposure to numbers and counting through play and everyday interactions helps them develop a fundamental understanding of quantities and relationships.
