Autumn

Autumn

On Tuesday, we made a start on our Autumn Topic by having a range of Autumn rescores in a tuff tray! We had acorns, pinecones, conkers, autumn leaves, leaves with holes and a tree branch with no leaves. We also added magnifying glasses and coloured lenses so the children could look at the natural autumn resources in different colours! We spoke about where the different objects came from and if any animals eat them, why leaves fall off in the Autumn and why they change colour! We also spoke about what sounds brown leaves make when we step on them, and why green leaves have holes in them, and what insects eat them for nutrition. To further extend this we read an insect book to the children as they played with the tray. This activity aimed to support their understanding of the world and personal social and emotional development as they played alongside each other, shared lenses, spoke about where these objects come from and why the process of leaves falling and changing colour happen.
