Allergy Awareness cooking session

As part of Allergy Awareness Week, the butterflies took part in a practical cooking activity where they prepared their own tea. Throughout the session, they explored a variety of vegetables while engaging in meaningful discussions about their favourite fruits and vegetables, helping to develop both their language and awareness of healthy food choices. A strong emphasis was placed on safety, particularly when using the hot plate, with children demonstrating a clear understanding of how to work carefully and responsibly in a cooking environment. Prior to cooking, we discussed the ingredients being used and how to identify them on food packaging. This supported the children in developing an awareness of allergens and understanding why different alternatives were provided, such as Quorn and chicken. During mealtime, the children reflected on the differences between their meals, discussing vegetarian and pescatarian options alongside the allergies present within the classroom. They showed a high level of respect, empathy, and consideration for one another, consistently demonstrating safe and inclusive eating practices. Well done Butterflies!
