Bread Making : Caribbean Style Roti

This week, as part of our bread-making activities, the children made Caribbean style roti. We were delighted to welcome some parents who joined us for this wonderful hands on experience.

The children began by selecting their ingredients and using weighing scales to carefully measure each one. They then mixed the ingredients together to create the dough, developing their understanding of simple cooking processes while practising their measuring and counting skills.

Once the dough was ready, the children divided it into smaller balls, patted them flat, and used rolling pins to roll them into thin circles. This provided a great opportunity to strengthen their fine motor skills and hand eye coordination.

With close adult supervision, the children helped to cook the roti on the hotplate and observed how the dough changed as it cooked. They were excited to see the finished bread and enjoyed tasting their homemade roti as part of their tea.

It was a fantastic experience that encouraged independence, teamwork, mathematical thinking, and an interest in foods from different cultures. Thank you to all the parents who joined us and helped make the activity so special.
