Bird feeders

Bird feeders

To end our topic of spring the children enjoyed making their own bird feeders out of different cereal and to see which one the birds are going to like best. The children did some research using the touch and tilt to see what materials they can use and how they can make their bird feeders using recycled materials. The children then went over to the junk modelling section and picked out some recycled bottles. The children enjoyed crushing the cereal up using rolling pins to see the effect of what happens to cereal when it gets crushed up compared to whole cereal. The children used rolling pins and used a back and forth motion to crush up their cereal. The next table enjoyed making holes into the bottle and carefully used an adults help to cut around the holes to make a flap. The children then used different colours to paint their bird feeder and enjoyed using strokes to paint their bird feeders, they enjoyed mixing colours together to create new colours and used this to paint their bird feeders. The children then enjoyed using bowls to pour the cereal into the bird feeder. We then took the bird feeders outside and the children enjoyed having it onto the tree for the birds to enjoy.
