Dual language animals

Dual Language Fun

This week in the baby room to begin our new topic ‘growth and life cycles’ we explored the different animals we can find in the wild and their calves and cubs. Such as the giraffe, panda, hippopotamus, and the cheetah. We used coloured tissue paper to imitate the habitat of the hippopotamus and as the babies have recently been very keen on food play, we added some dried cereal to imitate the habitats of some of the other animals.  They really enjoyed crumbling the Weetabix with their hands. We then extended this to ICT by using our French\English animal book which gave the babies the opportunity to hear the animal sounds and to also hear the animal names in French which enabled us to incorporate some of their home languages into our activity.
