This week the toddlers has cherished the sunshine, dived into refreshments and enhanced on the beauty of summer! To continue this, as a group the children engaged in a fun garden activity of collecting leaves and flower petals to stick them down on material.
To do this, we made some windows that were made from cardboard including sellotape that were inside of it filling the gap. Their task was to gather as many petals and leaves as they can and stick them down onto the tape area, resulting to a floral interior window.
We demonstrated to the children first, and they was quick to begin by running around finding leaves and bringing them back to stick down, and they done brilliant.
The children had the opportunity to experience the feel of mixed textures, from firm and smooth cardboard, sticky tape and thin dry leaves. Some of the children had a reaction when noticing that the petals were stuck down on the tape and didn’t move, so to some it was a new fun experience. This activity also encouraged the practice of their fine motor skills, examples of, pinching, picking, grabbing, pressing and more!
They had loads of fun during this easy but interactive activity, indicating great cooperation and understanding. To finish off they even got to use the sunlight to reflect on their windows, which produced a floral reflection and shadow, providing the children with new experience!
