We celebrated this special day by enjoying our usual French session before diving into an exciting exploration of Bastille Day! The Stars discovered why this important celebration is often called France's "birthday party" and learned that it takes place every year on 14th July. Together, we explored the fascinating story of the Bastille prison and how people came together in the hope of creating a fairer and freer future. The children loved finding out about the wonderful ways Bastille Day is celebrated today, from spectacular fireworks and lively parades to family picnics, music, dancing, and proudly waving the blue, white, and red French flag. We also enjoyed learning some fun facts about France, including the sparkling Eiffel Tower, delicious treats such as croissants, baguettes, and cheese, and even practised greeting one another by saying "Bonjour!". We then looked at a map of France and drew different land marks that we had learn about.
After our discussion, the Stars had the opportunity to work collaboratively to create their very own map of France. Each child carefully selected a landmark, food, or symbol from a collection of images before drawing it themselves and adding it to our class map. They showed fantastic creativity, concentration, and teamwork throughout the activity, and were incredibly proud of the finished result.
