Today we read The Colour Monster Goes to School and talked about the exciting changes that are coming. We discussed who would be going to school and who would be moving into Blaze. The children shared their thoughts about starting somewhere new or having a new room, making new friends, and getting to know their new teachers.

Following the story, the children used paint sticks to create their own Colour Monsters. As they worked, they talked about the different colours they were choosing and the emotions each one represented.

Several children chose blue to show sadness. When asked why, they shared that they would miss some of their friends. One child said, "Because I won't see some of my friends," while another said, "I won't see Claire and Holly."

The children also used yellow to represent happiness. They explained that they felt happy because they would be going to school with a friend from outside of nursery.

Some children chose red, explaining that it represented feeling angry. They described red as being "like fire," showing their understanding of how colours can be used to express different emotions and make connections with the world around them.

This activity encouraged the children to recognise and talk about their emotions, helping them understand that it is okay to have mixed feelings about new experiences. They showed great confidence in expressing their thoughts and feelings while creating their colourful monsters.
