Investigating fossils and crystals (1)

Today the blazes had a hands on experience learning about crystals and fossils. We learned that fossils were once animals or plants that turned to stone over many years and that this is how we discovered dinosaurs used to roam the earth! The children loved looking at the ammonites and we researched together what they would have looked like when they were alive and swimming around the sea. We also used a microscope to look closely at a bug that has been trapped in amber for millions of years! The Blazes then had an array of crystals to look at including amethyst, citrine, celestite, quartz and fluorite. They observed them closely with their magnifying glasses commenting on the different shapes and colours they could see. The children really enjoyed learning about the Earth’s treasures. Well done Blazes!
