 Dental Hygiene

As part of our topic ‘people who help us’ this week preschool looked at the role of a dental hygienist and the role of the dentist. The children first read a book about dental tooth decay and learned different facts about their teeth. We then create a tuff tray with different equipment that is used at the dentist. We explained the different equipment and the use of it and the children got to explore the different equipment. The children then used all of the equipment and put it into practice and used these to check the teddies teeth. The children were saying “we need to brush our teeth for two minutes”. Another child said “we need to brush two times a day”. The children then extended this activity by making their own 3d version of a tooth brush. The children chose the colour purple and used this to paint their toothbrush. They then used cotton wool to resemble the bristles of the toothbrush. The children then role played out being teeth! The children used yoga mats as the food that gets stuck on our teeth. The children then used the giant toothbrush to try and brush all the ‘food’ off of the ‘teeth’. The children noticed that the food stuck in between the teeth were still there so used giant ‘floss’ to get rid of it! The children really enjoyed role playing and were giggling when they were being brushed!
