Our toddlers had lots of fun taking part in a teeth-brushing activity! We explored the importance of keeping our teeth clean and healthy through a variety of fun, hands-on experiences. We began by reading a book about brushing our teeth. The children enjoyed looking at the pictures and listening to the story, helping them develop an understanding of the importance of good oral hygiene and how to care for their teeth.
The children then used plastic teeth and toothbrushes to practise brushing, learning how to clean teeth through pretend play. We also introduced some dentist materials, which encouraged the children to take on different roles and enjoy imaginative role play as dentists and patients.
The children had the opportunity to explore toothpaste and practise brushing their own teeth, helping them become more familiar with their daily oral hygiene routine. To make the activity even more enjoyable, we listened to some fun teeth-brushing songs and brushed along to the music! We also used laminated sheets of teeth that we had made dirty. The children used their toothbrushes to scrub away the marks and make the teeth clean again. This was a great way to develop their fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination and understanding of why we brush our teeth.
It was wonderful to see the children exploring, pretending, singing and learning together. Through these playful experiences, they developed their awareness of dental hygiene, language and communication skills, imagination, and confidence in their everyday self-care routines.
