The children in preschool have recently been very interested in singing, so we decided to take our music session outside into the garden. We sat together in a circle on the grass, which helped everyone feel included and able to see one another. The children were excited as we brought out a range of resources, including colourful scarves, musical instruments, sunglasses, and bubbles.
As we began singing familiar songs, the children eagerly joined in. Some used the scarves to move along with the music, waving and twirling them, while others explored the instruments, tapping and shaking them to create different sounds. The sunglasses added a fun, playful element, with some children pretending to be on stage or copying each other, which led to lots of giggles and interaction.
The bubbles were a big highlight. As they floated around the circle, the children watched them carefully, trying to catch and pop them while still joining in with the singing. This added an extra layer of excitement and movement, with children laughing, reaching, and moving around more freely.
Being outdoors made the session feel more relaxed and natural. Some children were more confident to join in, while others engaged in their own way, whether that was listening, watching, or exploring the resources. Overall, it was a lively and enjoyable experience that supported their interest in music, encouraged movement and coordination, and created opportunities for shared play and communication.
