Treasure Week! 🗺️
This week the children across the nursery enjoyed taking part in a variety of exciting treasure-themed activities.
In the baby room, the children brought in their treasured comforters and cuddly toys to share with their friends during circle time. They enjoyed showing their special items and exploring why they are important to them. The babies also had a go at making their own treasure maps using teabags to create an aged effect, and they especially enjoyed crumpling the paper afterwards.
The toddlers explored the theme of treasure by digging for hidden treasures and creating their own treasure maps. They used teabags to stain the paper, giving their maps an authentic old appearance, and had great fun using their imaginations as they searched for treasure.
In preschool, the children took part in an exciting treasure map activity. They explored different creative techniques by painting, dabbing and using sponges to cover paper with a mixture of coffee and tea leaves, creating an aged treasure map effect. The children showed curiosity as they observed the changes in colour and texture. Once the paper had dried overnight, the children carefully explored risky play by burning the edges of the paper with a candle, fully supported by an adult. They listened carefully to safety instructions and demonstrated an awareness of how to keep themselves safe.
The children then crumpled their paper to make it look old before drawing their own treasure maps, using marks, symbols and pictures to represent landmarks and routes. After completing their maps, the preschool children embarked on a treasure hunt around the garden. They followed clues and used positional language such as “behind”, “under” and “next to” while searching for the hidden treasure.
It was a fantastic week full of creativity, imagination, problem-solving and teamwork. Well done everyone!
