This week, our Stars have been on an exciting adventure exploring Antarctica and the North and South Poles! Throughout the week, the children immersed themselves in a variety of hands-on, sensory-rich experiences including ice painting, polar bear snow trays, ice penguin sensory trays, polar bear playdough, blue and white colour mixing, and watching engaging educational videos filled with fascinating polar facts.
One of the children's favourite discoveries was learning that the coldest temperature ever recorded in Antarctica was an incredible -89.2°C! They were amazed to learn just how cold the polar regions can be and enjoyed talking about the animals that call these icy environments home.
Our highlight of the week was an exciting ice rescue mission during our risky play activity. Frozen inside blocks of ice were the polar bear's animal friends, and it was the children's mission to free them! Before beginning, the children learned how to use hammers safely and responsibly, developing an understanding of risk awareness while building confidence with real tools under close supervision.
As they carefully chipped away at the ice, the children strengthened their gross motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and perseverance. They also demonstrated excellent teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills. Conversations included:
It was wonderful to see the children encouraging one another, sharing ideas, and working together towards a common goal. Their determination and excitement grew with every crack in the ice, and they were incredibly proud of themselves when they successfully rescued each animal.
This week's activities not only supported the children's understanding of the world around them but also encouraged curiosity, scientific thinking, cooperative play, resilience, and imaginative storytelling. We are so proud of how enthusiastically our Stars embraced every challenge and can't wait to continue exploring new adventures together!
