Keep it Steady!

Keep it Steady!

This week, the preschoolers took part in a STEM activity that encouraged problem-solving, teamwork, and creative thinking. To begin, I explained our goal: working in pairs to build the tallest structure possible while making sure it was steady and stable.

Throughout the activity, the children used their teamwork, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills as they planned, built, tested, and adapted their towers together.

We introduced CDs as an additional resource, encouraging the children to think about how they could use them to make their structures taller or stronger. It was wonderful to hear so much new vocabulary being used. Comments included, "Our tower is wobbling!" and "I'm going to make it taller than me!"

When towers became unstable or collapsed, the children thoughtfully discussed ways to improve them. They suggested ideas such as, "We need a bigger block over here," and "This one is too short," demonstrating their growing understanding of balance, stability, and construction.

The preschoolers showed fantastic perseverance throughout the challenge. Even when their towers crashed down, they quickly rebuilt them, showing resilience and determination to keep trying. The children also explored the properties of the CDs, commenting on how shiny they were and discussing whether they made their towers stronger.

It was wonderful to see the children's teamwork, persistence, and resilience as they embraced the challenge and continued trying, even when things didn't go to plan. Well done, everyone!
