Today, the Stars had an absolutely wonderful time during their gardening session! They were given the exciting opportunity to personally choose and grow their very own plant, and they were so enthusiastic to get started. The Stars carefully followed each step of the planting process. First, they used a shovel to collect some soil before finding a watering can and filling it with water. They then carefully made a small hole in the soil, placed their seeds inside, gently covered them back up and, finally, watered their newly planted seeds to help them grow. 

Throughout the activity, the Stars asked lots of fantastic questions about the flowers they had chosen. We talked about how plants are important to us and to our planet. The children learned that plants provide us with oxygen to breathe, food to eat and homes and sources of food for many insects and animals.

We also talked about bees and how important they are for plants and flowers. The Stars learned that bees help with pollination by carrying pollen from one flower to another, helping plants produce seeds and new flowers. We explored what plants need to grow and stay healthy, including sunlight, water, air, nutrients from the soil and plenty of care. We also introduced the children to the word photosynthesis. They learned that photosynthesis is the amazing process plants use to make their own food using sunlight, water and carbon dioxide from the air.  The Stars were completely engaged throughout the experience and thoroughly enjoyed getting their hands stuck into the soil! They showed wonderful curiosity, patience and care while planting their seeds, and they should be incredibly proud of themselves for taking on the responsibility of growing their very own plant.

We can't wait to watch their little plants grow and see what beautiful flowers they produce!
