This afternoon we did our weekly phonics scavenger hunt for our sound of the week which is S!

The Children eagerly set off around the garden to search for hidden objects and picture cards beginning with the ‘s’ sound.

The children were incredibly enthusiastic and worked wonderfully together, encouraging and celebrating each other whenever a friend discovered a hidden item. When an object was found, the child who discovered it proudly placed it into our phonics basket and ticked it off on the corresponding checklist.

Once all of the hidden items had been found, we gathered together and explored each of the “s” words we had discovered. This gave the children a fantastic opportunity to practise their phonics sounds, build their vocabulary and reinforce their understanding of the sound.

To celebrate their fantastic efforts, the children who found the cards received a star sticker, while everyone who joined in and helped received a super-cute smiley face sticker! 

The children had a fantastic time and are already looking forward to finding out what our next scavenger hunt will bring!
