Bread Making: Jewish/Polish bagels

Bread Making: Jewish/Polish bagels
As part of Week 8 of our ongoing bread-making sessions, the toddler children enjoyed making their very own bagels. They explored the different ingredients, helping to scoop, pour, and weigh them before mixing everything together. The children were excited to watch the dough come together and enjoyed using their hands to knead and squash it. After leaving the dough to rest and rise for an hour, they noticed how much bigger it had become and talked about the changes they could see. The toddlers then had fun shaping their bagels with support before watching them being boiled and baked. Throughout the activity, the children explored different textures, developed their fine motor skills, and followed simple instructions. This hands-on experience encouraged curiosity, supported early mathematical concepts through weighing and measuring, and helped the children build confidence and independence as they took part in each stage of the baking process.
