Autumn Tree Science

Today, the Butterflies became little scientists as they explored the magic of autumn through a fun, hands-on science experiment! The children created their very own autumnal trees using bicarbonate of soda and vinegar in a beautiful variety of autumn-inspired colours. Using pipettes, they carefully squeezed and released the coloured vinegar onto the bicarbonate of soda, watching with excitement as the mixture began to fizz, bubble and react! The children developed their fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination and control as they practised squeezing the pipettes and carefully directing the coloured vinegar onto their trees. The children were fascinated by the bubbling reaction and were encouraged to observe what happened, explore cause and effect, and begin to develop their curiosity about the world around them. As they created the colourful trees, they talked about the changes we see during autumn, including the beautiful reds, oranges, yellows and browns that appear on the leaves as the seasons change. It was lovely to see the Butterflies exploring, experimenting and learning through play, with each child creating their own unique autumn masterpiece!
