Extending our Transport Interests

Extending our Transport Interests

This week the children took part in an exciting role-play train journey. To begin the activity, the children visited the ticket office where they had the opportunity to buy their train tickets. This encouraged early mathematical skills as they exchanged money for tickets and practised turn-taking while waiting in line.
One child took on the role of the ticket officer and confidently walked around the train collecting tickets from the passengers before departure. The children enjoyed acting out different roles, developing their imagination, communication skills, and understanding of real-life experiences.
Chairs were arranged in rows to represent train seats, creating a realistic train environment. As the journey began, the children listened carefully to train sounds, which enhanced their sensory experience and encouraged engagement in the role play.
Throughout the journey, the children discussed what they might see out of the train windows. They shared a variety of ideas, including trees, animals, houses, rivers, fields, and people. This encouraged language development, creativity, and conversation skills as the children listened to one another's suggestions and built upon each other's ideas.
The activity provided opportunities for social interaction, imaginative play, problem-solving, and communication, while helping the children gain a greater understanding of the world around them through a familiar and enjoyable experience.
