Early Writing Skills
This week the toddlers all engaged in a focus group activity of early writing skills, that was encouraging their physical development and learning. They was equipped with small colourful bears and masking tape plastered around the table in front of them, in different positions, for them to line the bears up on.
First we demonstrated to them, how to carry out the activity and they paid attention very well and began taking their own attempts at it. The masking tape was put down in a variety of angles and directions, to give the children opportunities to position their own fingers and hands differently to be able to get the bears on the lines.
Furthermore, these steps were strongly enhancing on their fine motor skills because it would promote them to pinch, grab, pull and gesture their hands in ways it to carry out the objective. Whilst this encouraged their physical development and promotion of early writing skills, this too exercised their practice of colour recognition using the bears and being able to compare in sizes too, finding that the bigger bears were easier and quicker for them to grab hold of compared to the smaller ones.
The children cooperated so well together and portrayed great focus during this, and really enjoyed using the surface together as a group, to place and position colourful things. We’re proud of the many attempts they took and the observing of their peers joining in and positive attitude of wanting to take part also. Good job toddlers!
