Water Channeling

The Ladybirds explored water and guttering in the garden to look at water channeling. 

They used a variety of different sized containers to pour water down the guttering to explore its movement. 

Water was tip and poured to explore weight and capacity and shape, space and measures. 

Mathematical language was introduced such as full, empty, heavy and light. 

Children used the words fill and empty in the right capacity.

Children practiced using different amounts of water to wash down boats and animals. 

Learning that more water made boats move faster. 

Positional language was introduced such as under and over and up and down. 

Taps were used to fill containers explore fastenings and turning on taps.
