The Very Hungry Caterpillar

The Butterflies focused on the story The Very Hungry Caterpillar after a very exciting delivery of live caterpillars.

When the caterpillars were delivered the Butterflies talked about what might be inside.

They opened the box and counted 5 caterpillars in the tub.

They looked at what was inside and talked about the food inside tub.

They read the story The Very Hungry Caterpillar to get an understanding of the caterpillars cycle.

Once they had read the story they explored the various foods the caterpillar eats and started to make their own.

They used various fruits, flavourings and colouring's to create more food for the caterpillars adding it to their play dough creations.

They used fine motor skills to manipulate small tools such as pippets and rolling pins to construct the food.

They used the oranges, plums, apples, pears and strawberries from the story to inspire their creations discussing the taste and smell of the fruit.

They counted with one to one correspondence ensuring they had the correct number of fruits for the caterpillar to eat each day.

We are all excited to watch the caterpillars grow and continue their life cycle over the next few weeks.
