Dandelion Cordial

This week the Grasshoppers went out into the local community to take part in some foraging. Children searched for dandelion's in the local grass and forest to harvest for a cooking activity. The children were excited to be making dandelion cordial. Children looked closely at the flowers and their leaves and smelled their fragrance. They saw how the small white flowers grew in clusters spraying out from the branch and that the green leaves have slightly serrated edges.

Once the children had foraged for the flowers the had to harvest the dandelions for their recipe. The children followed a recipe carefully following simple instructions to at first abstract the different parts of the flowers so that they could begin cooking.

Children used a variety of tools to mix, scoop and pour as they created their cordial.
