Family Heritage

Family Heritage

This week in preschool we looked at our family heritage! The children each explored their heritage by bringing in special items from their homes to share with their friends. Each child showcased their items in front of their friends and told each other why it was special to them and their families. The children asked lots of different questions such as “what is that tray for?” and “what instrument is that?” After looking and hearing about each item, the children tried to guess where their friends were from. Some of the children recognised some of the items and said, “I’m from there too!” Some of the children had brought story books that told the stories in their own language! The children listened to it and found it interesting that there were so many different languages that their friends spoke.

To extend our activity we looked at all the different flags of the world and tried to identify the flags of the countries we came from! The children took turns to find their flags and describe them. One child said, “my flag is blue and has a white cross!” Another child said, “my flag is colourful!” The children then made their own flags and showcased them to their friends! Preschool enjoyed learning all about their own and their friend’s heritage.
