The Very Hungry Caterpillar

To introduce our topic of growth and life cycle the toddlers enjoyed learning about the life cycle of a butterfly linking this to the hungry caterpillar story. The toddlers first enjoyed listening to the story of the hungry caterpillar in a circle and then enjoyed feeding the caterpillar the different foods repeating the days and the food that the caterpillar was eating. We then linked this to maths were the children were counting the different foods as they were giving the caterpillar the food. We then extended this activity by creating a tuff tray with all the different steps of how an egg turns into a caterpillar. The children enjoyed exploring the different textures within the tray. The children thoroughly enjoyed listening and learning about the life cycle and how it turns into the butterfly in the end.

Well done toddlers for doing such good listening and exploring and learning about a new life cycle.
