This week, the Grasshoppers had a delightful experience participating in a hands-on cooking activity where they crafted their own pizzas from scratch! The children were thrilled to explore various ingredients and discuss their favourite pizza toppings.
They started by preparing the pizzas with freshly made dough, carefully stretching and shaping it with their hands. The children also took part in preparing the toppings, using child-safe knives to chop peppers, which helped them practise their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. We discussed the significance of kitchen safety, healthy eating, and the importance of washing our hands before handling any ingredients.
Once everything was ready, each child played a role in assembling the pizzas. They spread the tomato sauce, sprinkled on the cheese, and thoughtfully selected and added their own toppings. It was wonderful to witness the children's confidence in making independent choices and their ability to collaborate as a team while taking turns and sharing resources.
At tea time, the Grasshoppers enjoyed a special pizza party where they could self-serve their creations from the pizza station. The children took great pride in what they had made and loved discussing their pizzas with their friends. This fantastic activity encouraged independence, communication, creativity, and confidence, while also introducing early cooking skills in a fun and engaging manner.
