Pumpkin Patch

This week, our toddlers explored some lovely pumpkins through a variety of fun and engaging activities that encouraged imaginative play, physical development, creativity and early mathematical thinking.

For our first activity, the children took part in some exciting pumpkin shop role play. They selected their own pumpkins and placed them on the scales to weigh them. The children enjoyed looking at and pointing to the numbers they could see, before making marks on paper to represent the numbers. They then used their imaginations to role-play as shopkeepers and customers, pretending to buy their pumpkins and take them home. This activity supported their early mathematical skills, communication and language, and social development.

For our second activity, the children had the opportunity to get creative by using a variety of paints to decorate their pumpkins. They explored different colours, experimented with mark-making and expressed their creativity through their own unique designs.

To finish our pumpkin exploration, the children helped to carve the pumpkins and discovered what was hiding inside! They explored the seeds, pulp and different textures, using their hands to investigate the contents. We extended this experience by creating our own pumpkin sensory tuff tray, allowing the children to explore through touch, curiosity and hands-on sensory play.

Throughout the week, the children had lots of opportunities to learn through play, develop their imaginations and explore the wonderful world of pumpkins!
