This week at preschool we focused on learning about post offices. We had a special “Post Office Day” where the children took part in a variety of fun and interactive activities. The children sat together around the tuff tray which was set up with envelopes, stickers, parcels and post boxes with different shapes on them.
The children enjoyed matching and posting the correct shapes into the corresponding post boxes, helping to develop their shape recognition, problem-solving skills and hand-eye coordination. They were very engaged and excited to take turns posting the shapes just like real post workers.
We then introduced packages and stickers for the children to explore. The children decorated their parcels with stickers and practised early mark-making and name writing by attempting to write their names on the packages. This supported their fine motor development, pencil control and early literacy skills.
Throughout the activity the children used their imaginations and communication skills as they talked about sending letters and parcels to family and friends. The children showed great enthusiasm, curiosity and confidence while learning through play
