International Bread Making Day! - Indian Naan Bread

International Bread Making Day! - Indian Naan Bread 🫓
This week the children across the nursery took part in a bread-making activity where they made traditional Indian naan bread. They explored the ingredients, talking about how the flour, yoghurt and other ingredients looked and felt before mixing them together. The children enjoyed measuring, pouring and stirring the mixture before using their hands to knead the dough. They noticed how the texture changed as they worked it and commented on how soft and stretchy it became.
When it got very sticky, the children commented on textures and explored how it felt on their tiny fingers!
The children practised rolling out their naan bread, developing their hand strength and coordination. They were excited to watch the bread cook and enjoyed tasting their finished naan, discussing the smell, taste and texture.
The activity also introduced the children to a food from another culture, encouraging curiosity and an appreciation of different traditions!
