World Cup comes to Stars

Today stars enjoyed exploring football through both imaginative play and maths activities. We talked about what the World Cup is and about some of the different countries that take part. We also talk about how different countries host it every four years.

In our small world area, the children used small world people and football resources to create their own matches and tournaments. They worked together to move the players around the pitch, score goals, and talk about their favourite teams. This encouraged communication, teamwork, creativity, and storytelling as they developed their own football adventures.

For our football maths game, the children rolled a dice and found the football shirt with the matching number. On the reverse side of each shirt was the number of goals scored. The children counted the goals carefully, discovering that some teams had scored lots of goals while others had scored none at all. This fun activity helped develop number recognition, counting skills, and understanding that zero means no goals were scored.

The children showed great enthusiasm throughout both activities and enjoyed combining their love of football with learning through play.
