Today, the Stars and Blazes had a fantastic time enjoying their Forest Friday!
We took our picnic blankets into the forest and got ready for a morning full of creativity and exploration. We started by experimenting with mark making using a variety of materials and surfaces. The children had great fun drawing against the trees, over leaves and even using sticks to see what different marks and patterns they could create on their paper. It was wonderful to see them exploring their ideas and discovering how different textures could change the marks they made.
We then went on a little nature hunt to collect natural materials to make our very own forest paint. The children collected mud, moss, berries and leaves before adding them all to a pot. They took turns grinding the materials together, watching with excitement as their natural ingredients turned into colourful, homemade paint!
Once our paint was ready, the children grabbed their paintbrushes and got to work creating their masterpieces. They were so proud of their artwork and loved talking about the colours and materials they had used.
After all that creativity, we sat together on our blankets and enjoyed a well-deserved, yummy snack. While we ate, we took some time to listen and talk about what we could see and hear around us. The children noticed the wind blowing through the leaves, birds tweeting, people talking and the sound of leaves crunching as people walked past.
It was a wonderful morning filled with creativity, teamwork, sensory exploration and lots of opportunities to connect with nature. The Stars and Blazes thoroughly enjoyed their Forest Friday and had a fantastic time learning through play and exploration!
