Bug Hotel

BUG HOTEL 🐛

The children in preschool thoroughly enjoyed taking part in a creative, hands-on activity by making their own bug hotel. This activity linked closely to their growing interest in minibeasts and exploring the natural world around them. Parents were invited to bring in recycled materials from home, and we collected a variety of items such as toilet roll tubes, small boxes, and other reusable materials. The children were excited to explore the different textures, shapes, and sizes of the materials, discussing which insects might like to live in each one.
Working together, the children used glue to stick the materials together, developing their fine motor skills as well as learning the importance of teamwork and sharing ideas. They showed great concentration and creativity while building the bug hotel, proudly talking about their work and the insects they hoped would visit. Once completed, we placed the bug hotel in the garden, where it will provide a safe home for insects. This ongoing resource will support the children’s interest in nature, recycling, and caring for the environment, while encouraging them to observe changes outdoors and develop respect for living things.
