Building Our Castle: A Creative Adventure
Our pre-schoolers were thrilled to receive a huge cardboard box generously donated by the builders in our complex. With big imaginations and even bigger ideas, the children decided to transform the box into a majestic castle!
We began our castle project by designing the front door. An adult presented three different door designs, and the children eagerly voted for their favourite. Once a design was chosen, we drew the outline on the box, and the children carefully traced over the lines — an excellent opportunity to develop their fine motor skills.
When it came time to cut out the door, the thick cardboard proved to be a challenge, so an adult stepped in to help with the cutting. Afterwards, we brought the castle indoors and began painting. The children chose a silver-grey colour for the castle walls and got busy painting — working together, sharing tools, and strengthening their gross motor skills through wide, sweeping brushstrokes.
At last, the castle was ready! The children dove into imaginative play, declaring “I’m the queen!” or “I’m the king!” and using our dressing-up clothes to bring their royal characters to life. The activity beautifully combined creativity, teamwork, and imaginative play, turning a simple box into a magical world of their own. Well done preschool, we have loved watching your creativity come to life!
