Christmas Fine Motor Fun

Christmas Fine Motor Fun in the Toddler Room

This week in the toddler room, we enjoyed a festive Christmas fine motor sensory tray that encouraged lots of exploration, concentration, and excitement.
The children were presented with a sensory tray filled with coloured rice, shiny baubles, and sparkly tinsel. Using child-friendly tongs, they carefully transferred the different materials into bowls and jars. This activity captured their curiosity and kept them engaged as they explored the different textures, colours, and sounds.
Using the tongs helped to strengthen the children’s fine motor skills, supporting hand-eye coordination, grip strength, and control. The children also practised problem-solving and patience as they worked out how to pick up each item and decide where to place it.
There were lots of smiles as the children enjoyed the festive colours and the gentle challenge of moving the materials independently. Some children showed great focus, while others enjoyed filling and emptying the containers repeatedly, developing their confidence and independence through play.
It was a lovely, calm activity that brought a touch of Christmas magic into our learning while supporting important early development skills.
