Cooking with Sharon

For cooking week the babies turned into mini and baked a lovely crumble. They enjoyed using their hands to mix the butter and flour together and took it in turns to scoop up the crumble mixture and pour it on top of the softened apples. Then we waited very patiently for our yummy dessert to be cooked in the oven before giving our creations a taste of approval at lunch time… it was delicious!

As part of cooking week we make some mini doughnuts with our nursery chef Sharon. Sharon talked to us about all the ingredients we would need. Then showed us the doughnut maker. While we listened we also discussed the health and safety aspects of using the doughnut maker. We used language like “hot”, “don’t touch” and “waiting”. Sharon then supported us to pour and mix the ingredients together. We used a whisk which was a great treat to explore. We then helped to carefully pour our mixture into the machine. Sharon explained that we need to leave our mixture in their to bake so we would have to wait just over ten minutes. When our doughnuts were ready we enjoyed them with our tea. Great job toddlers. Thank you Sharon for cooking with us.

On Friday preschool enjoyed a cooking session with Sharon making Quesadillas, with a tuna and cheese filling. The children had the opportunity to squeeze mayonnaise into the tuna and mix it around using their gross motor skills to combine the ingredients. After the tuna and mayonnaise were combined, the children then placed them into the wraps and spread it around using a fork. We then used our fine motor skills to sprinkle over the cheese on the wrap, next, placing another wrap on top.

We then used the hot plate to melt our cheesy tuna quesadillas, and spoke about the risks around the hot plate, how we could burn ourselves if we touch the hot plate. Preschool were extra careful and listened to instructions when using the hot plates.

We then finally enjoyed them for our tea when they were ready! Thank you Sharon for cooking with us!🥰
