Diwali (3)

This week, the toddlers celebrated the festival of Diwali. We enjoyed exploring lots of wonderful colours and patterns, learning more about this beautiful festival of lights. Using coloured sand and stencils, we created bright and intricate rangoli patterns in the tuft tray. The children then had a go at designing their own rangoli patterns, showing great creativity and focus. We also looked at some beautiful Diya lamps and had fun making our own using paper.
🪔 In preschool, we had a wonderful time celebrating Diwali, the Festival of Lights, through a range of fun and creative activities. To begin, the children enjoyed making their very own chapattis! Each preschooler made their own dough by mixing together flour, oil, butter, and warm water. They got really hands-on, kneading and mixing the ingredients, adding a little more water or oil when needed to get the perfect consistency. Once the dough was ready, the children shaped it into small, round chapattis, ready to be cooked and shared. We made enough chapatti dough to share with our friends across all the rooms and they were absolutely delicious!
We also created beautiful rangoli designs. To make our colourful rangoli, we mixed salt with bright paints to create vibrant coloured salts. The children looked at different rangoli patterns for inspiration and used stencils to help them design their own creations. After carefully sprinkling the coloured salt and lifting the stencils, everyone was amazed to see the stunning patterns they had made. Some children also used chalk to draw and decorate their own rangoli patterns on the floor, adding even more colour and creativity to our celebration. To make the experience even more special, we listened to traditional Diwali music, helping us all get into the true Diwali spirit.
Well done, preschoolers! Your chapattis were delicious, and your rangoli patterns were absolutely beautiful. What a wonderful way to celebrate Diwali together!
🪔 The babies explored colour and texture by dipping cotton balls into different coloured paints and printing onto paper to create bright Diwali-inspired patterns. They enjoyed dabbing, pressing, and mixing the colours, watching the marks appear on the paper. This activity encouraged sensory exploration, creativity, and fine motor skills while introducing the babies to the celebration of Diwali — the festival of light.
