On Monday, we had the pleasure of welcoming Eco Active into our school for an exciting and educational session all about food waste and composting.
Georgie, our fantastic Eco Active educator, took us on a journey through the life cycle of food waste. We learned how the food we throw away doesn’t have to go to landfill—it can be transformed with the help of wriggly worms into rich, healthy compost that helps new plants grow!
To help us really understand the process, Georgie brought in real worms in compost for us to look at up close! It was fascinating (and a little bit wiggly!) to see the worms in action and learn about the important role they play in breaking down food waste.
We also got our hands dirty making seed balls—a fun and eco-friendly way to support wildlife in our local areas. Using flour, soil, and water, we shaped the mixture into balls packed with seeds that we can take home and plant. These little creations are perfect for attracting bees, butterflies, and other pollinators to our gardens and green spaces.
It was a brilliant, hands-on workshop that not only taught us about reducing food waste but also inspired us to care more for our planet. A big thank you to Georgie and Eco Active for showing us how small changes can make a big difference!
