Exploring Early Maths

This week in the Toddler Room, the children explored early mathematical concepts through playful, hands-on activities that supported their development in many areas. During our colour-sorting activity, the toddlers used their hands and tongs to place brightly coloured objects from a large tuft tray into matching boxes. This not only encouraged colour recognition and early problem-solving but also strengthened fine motor skills and concentration. Later, we turned to shapes, using magnetic pieces on a large whiteboard for the children to trace and draw around. Through this, they practised shape recognition, mark-making, and hand-eye coordination, while also expressing creativity as they experimented with patterns and outlines. Both activities provided valuable opportunities for the children to develop their mathematical thinking, perseverance, and confidence all while having fun learning through play.
