Exploring the Life Cycle of a Frog

Exploring the Life Cycle of a Frog 🐸
This week the children explored the life cycle of a frog through a sensory tuff tray activity. The tray contained chia seeds soaked in water to represent frogspawn, allowing the children to observe and feel a similar texture to real frog eggs. We also had cornflour mixed with green paint and water, to represent the pond water. The children were very curious as they looked closely at the “frogspawn,” touching and discussing what it might feel like in a pond.

We talked together about the life cycle of a frog and looked at pictures displayed on the easel showing each stage. The children helped to identify and discuss the different stages, including frogspawn, tadpole, froglet and frog. Arrows were used between the pictures to help the children understand the order of the cycle and what happens next.

The children showed interest in the changes that happen as the frog grows, asking questions and sharing their ideas about how tadpoles turn into frogs. This activity encouraged curiosity about nature and supported the children’s understanding of life cycles and growth. The sensory experience also allowed the children to explore texture and engage in hands-on learning while developing their communication and thinking skills.
