This week in the toddler room we explored our interest in sorting and matching while also working on our hand eye coordination and fine motor skills. Hand-eye coordination in toddlers enhances fine and gross motor skills, leading to improved academic performance and everyday tasks like dressing and eating. It also boosts cognitive skills, spatial awareness, and problem-solving abilities, preparing them for future learning. To do this we explored three different activities that challenged us to test these skills. For the first activity we had to rescue pom poms that were trapped under a web. We used tongs and our finger to pinch and grab the different sized pom poms then lined them up on the sticky tape. This really encouraged us to work our fine motor finger movements and we learned how to use tongs. We were able to explore our mathematical skills through creating patterns, counting and sorting as we lined them up on the tape. Our second activity helped us to explore and match colours through vehicle sorting. We used our large gross motor movements to sorts and move the different vehicles into their corresponding coloured area. We loved sharing and encouraging each other during this activity enjoying the learning experience as a group. For our final activity we tested all of our skills that we had been using throughout the week. We followed lines and patterns on the floor using our fine motor skills to line up play people and our gross motor skills to stretch and move vehicles to follow the lines. We took turns and shared together as we created sequences and patterns with the different objects all while using our hand eye coordination to follow the lines. Great job toddlers we can really see how much you have been enhancing your skills.
