This week, the toddlers explored some fun role play where they made their very own jam! The children enjoyed picking strawberries and raspberries, which they then mashed using pestles and mortars to create their own fruity jam mixture.
Once their jam was ready, the children used knives to carefully spread it onto pieces of bread. They loved exploring this sensory and imaginative activity and were thoroughly engaged in each step of the process — from mashing the fruit to tasting their creations!
This activity supported a wide range of developmental skills. The children strengthened their fine motor control through mashing and spreading, and developed their hand–eye coordination as they handled the tools. They used their senses to explore different textures, smells, and tastes, building their understanding of the world. The activity also encouraged communication and language as they talked about what they were doing, and personal, social, and emotional development as they shared tools and worked alongside their friends.
Well done, toddlers! You showed wonderful curiosity and teamwork while making your own jam! 🍓🥣🍞
