Old McDonald!

Old McDonald!

This week the toddlers had the fun opportunity of embracing one of their popular and most favourited rhymes within the room, ‘old McDonald had a farm’. This was exciting for the children as it’s a common song choice for them, as they enjoy the variety of animals whilst musically interacting.
Through this, it supports their interests and strengths so the activity will be more appealing for the children, and encourages them to take part and engage in the learning along with their peers and even can be a new thing for those that may not be used to sensory play but want to explore.

This was turned into a sensory filled practical activity, where a selection of textures were presented like, grass, paint, jelly bath and dry spaghetti which all represented different areas animals can be found within a farm and animals natural habitats. The children gained insight on the habitats of, water, mud, hay and fields, highlighting to the children the colours that can be found in a farm area, identifying them and recognising what makes them differ from one another.

Overall, the toddlers absolutely loved this activity and engaged so well with each other. This promoted their counting through the use of animals, colour recognition, practice of taking turns, socialising and more. Good job!
