Our Lemonade

When life gives you lemons….

This week in preschool we made homemade lemonade. Our first activity saw us squeezing lemons (and oranges) with lemon squeezers into pitchers, we found it easier to roll the lemons first to make them warmer causing them to be easier to squeeze. We made it into an experiment to see which consistency of ingredients would make the best lemonade “ I think the one with the most honey will taste the best” and “ I think the orange will be tastier than the lemons” was among the comments made. After squeezing the fruit we risk assessed using the kettle, making sure we was aware that the kettle was super hot and it needed to be guided by an adult. We added boiling water to the juice and added honey and left it to cool. Whilst it was cooling we made signs for our lemonade stand, creating prices and a beautiful drawing to go with it. To finish the experience we added ice to the cooled pitchers and made our lemonade stand. We used the till and fake money to roleplay buying and selling the lemonade and had so much fun tasting it! “It was delicious” was the majority vote! And our prediction about more honey was correct, it provided a sweeter taste and it took away some of the bitterness! Well done preschool you did so well with this activity and it was amazing seeing it all come together!
