Our Natural World

This week in preschool the children learnt about a variety of natural resources that make up most of what we see in the world. We divided this topic into three sections, Sky, land and water for the children to then work in groups to categorize what animals, transports and other objects they may see in that specific section. To begin with, the children were put into groups on their tables and gathered a variety of resources such as, paper plates, paint & brushes, paper and pencils plus more. Three tables were painting paper plates that represented either the sky, land or water, depending on its colour, grey meaning sky, green meaning land and blue representing the ocean. After the children allowed their wet paper plates to dry, they were given the task to pick an animal of their choice to draw onto their land or a sea animal in the ocean, this was a freehand drawing meaning they would just eyeball it, which encourages the children to be focus and observe thoroughly what they are drawing. Many children picked cheetahs, zebras and tigers to draw for their land, and whales, octopuses and sharks for their ocean. They then labelled it by themselves, to exercise their literacy and phonic sounds, filling up their plates more.
