Our prehistoric counting adventures!
This week in preschool, we explored a keen interest of many of the children being dinosaurs!
The children had the chance to eagerly explore the dinosaur-themed tuft tray, which offered a rich sensory experience designed to ignite their imagination and curiosity. The tray was filled with soft sand and a unique green cornflour and water mixture, that created a fascinating, gooey texture for little hands to squish and mold. Scattered among the terrain were sprigs of thyme, adding a delightful earthy scent to the play, and frozen broccoli florets, providing an unexpected chilly sensation and texture to stimulate touch. As the children moved toy dinosaurs through the landscape, they engaged in creative storytelling, mimicking roaring sounds and staging prehistoric adventures in their very own Jurassic world!
The children also engaged in mathematical development through the use of mirrored numbers around the dinosaur tuft tray. As they explored the tray, they were encouraged to identify and match the mirrored numbers, enhancing their number recognition and understanding of reflection. This playful interaction not only supported early numeracy skills but also introduced concepts of symmetry and visual perception, all within the context of their imaginative dinosaur world.
Well done preschool for your excellent learning this week!
