POST IT!

POST IT!

This week in preschool, as a team the children engaged in a practical literacy activity of matching. There was a stretch of paper taped on the wall presenting all the alphabets in the Upper case form, and all around the classroom was post it notes, presenting letters in the lowercase form.
At first the children went over the alphabets and identified the ones they were familiar with, know how to pronounce, ones in their names etc. Then along with our explanation and demonstration, the children‘s task was to roam around the room in groups pick up a post it each, and match it to the same letter presented on the wall, except that it was in the uppercase form.

This activity was to promote recognition of letters, and encourage the children to get familiar with both uppers cases and lower cases, reassuring them that they’re the same letters but look different. Some of the preschoolers were rapid to complete their post its, because they were familiar with the letter, e.g, their name, favourite animal or place etc. However, there was some children that didn’t feel so confident and needed some assistance because they wasn’t used to either the lowercase look or uppercase.

This was good practice for them all, exercising their literacy and preventing any limits on their learning. The children enjoyed it so much, working as a team, cooperating so well and communicating with each other. Great Job!
